Spring into Summer - Clothing Exchange Gala & ECOuture Fashion Show

6-8pm, Thursday 21 October 2010, Coogee Diggers RSL, Carr Street, Coogee NSW 2034

Coogee Public School’s community of students, parents and teachers rallied together to hold an impressive fundraiser to promote sustainable and ethical fashion.

The event combined a designer clothes swap, an online auction of vintage and designer outfits and rare nostalgia items, and ECOuture – the inaugural sustainable design competition.

More than just a fundraiser for Coogee Public School, the school community is committed to giving back to the community and supporting young talent by providing them with the opportunity to showcase their talent and gain exposure.

The winner received a $500 cash prize donated by the schools uniform supplier PSW (which has recently become accredited with Ethical Clothing Australia) and a subscription to Peppermint Magazine as well as a few Fabric vouchers. The second prize was a $250 voucher from Cue (also an accredited brand with Ethical Clothing Australia.)

The night kicked off with the “ECOuture” fashion parade at 6.30pm – showcasing the 15 shortlisted designs for the guest international judge, Clara Vuletich (Chelsea College of Art and Design, UK) and Graeme Brooks (Wholesale General Manager at PSW). Design students from UNSW, TAFE Ultimo, UTS and Whitehouse  submitted their reengineered fashion designs for the event.  Napoleon Perdis Makeup Academy students did the makeup on the night and students from Toni and Guy styled the hair.

The vision of the event organisers was to raise the profile of sustainable fashion, which translated to encouraging the community to buy Australian-made products from designers and brands accredited with Ethical Clothing Australia.
