NOBODY loves ethical fashion

World renowned denim label, NOBODY, headlines Ethical Clothing Australia’s list of recent accreditations. All of NOBODY’s pieces are designed, made and hand-customised in Australia, but what was just a small local brand 10 years ago now commands a notable profile on the world stage – sold in leading boutiques internationally and worn by A list celebrities such as Drew Barrymore, Naomi Watts, Jennifer Garner and Charlize Theron.

Speaking in The Age newspaper recently, Nobody founder and manager, John Condilis, said not only will the accreditation system help cut exploitative practices out of the industry, but it will give Australian brands an edge in future markets.

“We’re ethical, we’re fair, we’ve got nothing to hide. In three to five years, I think this will be second nature for everyone,” he said.

Nobody’s accreditation in July has been followed by six other successful applications from Queensland Swimwear Company, emerging fashion label Ampersander, workwear manufacturer Babylon Industries, sports and schoolwear manufacturer Valour, leisurewear brand Walkabout, and PSW – Primary School Wear.

Ethical Clothing Australia national coordinator, Emer Diviney said she was extremely encouraged by the calibre of labels now preparing applications to become accredited to display the Ethical Clothing Australia trademark on their Australian-made garments.

“Our accreditation list has steadily grown throughout the year and I’m hoping in the not too distant future it will be a bit of a who’s who of the Australian fashion and clothing industry. It’s great that consumers are increasingly being presented with genuinely ethical choices,” Ms Diviney said.

Nobody were recently named in the Top 5 for Denim in the prestigious Sportswear International Fashion Awards for the second year running. The ultimate winner of this award is to be announced in November.
